The 1978 Constitution entrusted The Provincial Council with the responsibility of governing and taking charge of the administration of the municipalities of the province of Málaga. As a local and administrative entity, the Council has played an important role (alongside other public institutions) in shaping the liberal state since its origins in the 19th century. It also represents an important step in the journey towards the establishment of the democratic state and the civil service, as well as the process of territorial distribution.
