How can we build a community of resilient people in the Mediterranean area? How can we ease the shift to a greener way of living? These are the questions that the speakers in the EU Regions Week workshop will try to answer the 13 October from 11.30 to 13.00pm CEST. The session aims to set out the collective achievements reached through networks, thematic communities, and clusters in three areas of the EU Green Deal: circular economy, green entrepreneurship, and sustainable transport.
The discussion will be moderated by Mr. Jean-Pierre Halkin, Head of Unit ‘Macro-regions, Transnational/Interregional/External Cooperation, Enlargement’ at the European Commission’ DG REGIO, will feature the following speakers:
- Guido Vettorel, Head of Unit at Central Adriatic Ports Authority, Ancona, Italy – ADRION Thematic Cluster on Multimodal, Sustainable Water and Land Transport
- Ms Mercè Boy Roura, BETA Technological Center/University of Vic (Central University of Catalonia, Spain) – Interreg MED Green Growth Community coordinator
- Ms Krystel Khalil, Programs Director at Berytech, Lebanon – Partner of the ENI CBC Med ‘BESTMEDGRAPE, GIMED and STAND Up!’ funded projects
- Ms Ivana Sacco, Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Department for Cohesion Policy
The speakers will present the successful experience of the Green Growth community on the circular economy topic, ENI CBC MED on green entrepreneurship business models and ADRION Thematic Cluster on Sustainable Transport solutions.
The session will shed light on the three programmes environmental-related priorities for the new EU 2021-2027 period, insisting on the importance of synergies and cooperation in order to maximize available funding and the impact of projects for a greener, more sustainable development across the Mediterranean region.
About the European Week of Regions and Cities
The European Week of Regions and Cities is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. This year’s edition under the slogan ‘Together for Recovery’ will take place fully digital from 11-14 October 2021 with more than 300 sessions and online networking activities will focus on four topics: Green Transition; Cohesion; Digital transition; Citizens’ engagement.
